1. What is the source and name of this tool, if applicable? Where did you find it?

        Course specific self created.

 2. What object(s) have you assessed with this tool?

Student performance outcomes (e.g., learning outcomes, study habits, skills)

√  Course outcomes (e.g., goals reached, content covered)
3. What kind of tool is this?

√  Other (Please specify) Case study guide

4. Given the object that you were assessing and the kind of tool used, what was the purpose of the assessment?

Improvement: to acquire feedback that can be used to improve outcomes.

√  Other: please specify here: To evaluate student proficiency

5. Why did you choose this tool in particular? Was it the only one available? Was it better than others that you had encountered?

No other tool would give me the flexibility and ability to use as a “teaching” rubric.  The course is content specific, but by the same token, rooted in many disciplines.

6. When did you use this tool? Please give potential users any information you feel they would need to properly use this instrument, such as the timing (e.g., beginning or end of the semester) or context in which it should be used (e.g., on the same day that students fill out their instructor evaluations).

It’s used through out the course as a means of formative assessments section by section and the in it’s entirety for student evaluation.

7. Please explain how the tool is administered (e.g., distributed to students in class, an email survey that is sent to a list-serve, etc.). If this tool requires development to be used (e.g., a portfolio), please explain how it is developed.

Three weeks into the course the case study is described and the expectations provided.  Students refer to the guidelines through out the course and gage their own proficiency as the course progresses.

8. What did you do with your results.

Helps to gage the scope, speed, and sequence of materials, teaching and learning.  Also let’s me know how well students are doing at intervals so that I can provide individualized attention.

9. Do you have any other comments about the tool that you feel would be useful for people to know before using it?

Course specific, but the model is useful any time that there is a cumulative product as a final expectation.
